Tourism Selangor’s Visit Selangor Year (VSY) 2025 campaign, “Surprising Selangor” got a boost from the Malaysian Association of Hotels, Selangor Chapter (MAHSEL) and the Malaysian Association of Hotel Owners (MAHO) through the Selangor Super Savers 2025 (SSS2025) campaign recently.

Officiated by YBrs Puan Chua Yee Ling, Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Selangor at Dorsett Grand Subang, the SSS2025 campaign aims to showcase the best of Selangor while enhancing the working relationship among hotels, shopping malls, theme park operators and tourist attractions in the state.

Also present at the launch were Tuan Haji Shaharuddin M Saaid - Executive Director, Malaysian Association of Hotel Owners; Datin Jasmine Abdullah Heng - Chairman of the Malaysian Association of Hotels, Selangor Chapter; B C Ong - Council Member Rep for Selangor / Central Region of the Malaysian Association of Hotel Owners; Mr CK Ang – President of Malaysian Association of Theme Parks & Family Attractions and Mr William Tang - Vice President 1 of the Malaysia Shopping Malls Association.

With the launch of SSS2025, both MAHSEL and MAHO hope to support Tourism Selangor in achieving its target of 8 million tourists by this year end.

A dedicated online portal, https://selangorsupersavers.com/ was also unveiled. Highlights include stay packages offering a minimum of 10% off Best Available Rates, RM50 F & B credit and late check out till 3 pm as well as up to 10% off meeting and wedding packages by 21participating hotels in Selangor: Le Meridien Putrajaya, Marriott Putrajaya, Moxy Putrajaya, Four Points by Sheraton Puchong, Crystal Crown Hotel Harbour View Port Klang, Pegasus Hotel, Dorsett Grand Subang, Mines Beach Resort, Royale Chulan Damansara, M World Hotel and Acappella Suite Hotel among others.

Visitors staying in any of the participating hotels can enjoy extra perks and discounts at theme parks and shopping malls such as GL Play by Gamuda Land, Jungle Gym Eco-Sanctuary Mall, Jungle Gym i-City, Jungle Gym Quayside Mall, Just Farm, Wet World Shah Alam and Sunway Pyramid. 

On phase 2 of the SSS2025, MAHSEL and MAHO hope more industry players in Selangor will support the campaign until end of 2025 as a precursor to Visit Malaysia Year 2026, targetting 26.1 million tourist arrivals and a domestic spending of RM97.6 billion.

GHOSTBUSTERS ADVENTURE LIVE! AT SUNWAY LAGOON

Ghostbusters - one of the top 10 most iconic film franchises of all time – has just stormed into local cinemas, making it the perfect headline experience for The Ghostbusters Adventure-Live! attraction at Lynton V Harris Scream Park, Sunway Lagoon.

As part of the media entourage invited to the sneak preview experience, we enjoyed first dibs at the unveiling of Asia’s first live interactive Ghostbusters attraction; Sunway Lagoon's biggest annual investment todate since the Scream Park was launched some seven years ago.

Occupying the entire top level of Scream Park, The Ghostbusters Adventure-Live! journey takes visitors through a 15-minute spooky fun travail through the current movie’s replicated on-site locations. The thrills lie with the cast of live actors playing seasoned ‘Ghostbusters’ and ‘ghosts’, interacting sporadically with visitors at designated sections inside the park.

Lynton V. Harris, Chairman & CEO of The Sudden Impact! Entertainment Company said the choice to go with Ghostbusters was based on the movie franchise’s evergreen family-friendly appeal and sustained longevity. “The idea is to give the family-centric crowd an immersive scary experience with spooky, ghoulish fun elements minus the gory elements.”

Besides Ghostbusters, Sunway Lagoon’s successful partnership with Lynton V Harris &The Sudden Impact! Entertainment Company has seen past attractions such as Terminator, Night at The Museum, Prison Break LIVE! And World War Z headlining inside the Scream Park.

After the obligatory media photo opp to mark the Ghostbusters Adventure-Live! launch, we were herded in small groups to Slimer’s pad, filled with cool Ghostbusters memorabilia. At Aldridge Mansion – New York’s oldest private home and museum, we encountered the ‘ghostly appearance’ of Gertrude Aldridge.

Expect more sudden, heart-stopping scares and unexpected ghoulish ‘fiends’ stalkings as you detour through New York Subway’s Seward Street Station and Old Zhu’s Chinese Restaurant, the new headquarters of the new all-female Ghostbusters. 

Also on the agenda is Rowan’s basement followed by the infamous Mercado Hotel in New York’s iconic Times Square where guests will face a spooky, scary and slimy finale to their journey. Once you watch the movie, the different sets will seem familiar so make sure you don't miss out on both the cinematic experience along with The Ghostbusters Adventure -Live! thrills.

Calvin Ho, Senior General Manager of Sunway Theme Parks explained “The Ghostbusters Adventure-Live! provides park-goers and fans alike with a unique and interactive journey through the Ghostbusters world for the next three years. The re-creation of certain locations from the latest movie, brings a sense of realism to the whole experience.”

Guests (Malaysians who are 18 and above) who spend RM300 or above in one single receipt will stand a chance to drive away with a brand new Proton Iriz as part of Sunway Lagoon’s first ever ‘Spend and Win’ contest.

STARRY BUKA PUASA FEAST BY THE SUNWAY LAGOON BEACH

Lounge under a star-spangled sky amidst a Moroccan-style tent adorned with billowing drapes, comfy satin throw cushions and decorative lanterns. As you partake numerous specialities laid out for buka puasa, enjoy the cooling breeze from Sunway Lagoon's expansive Surf Beach.

 

Sounds magical? This year the Sunway Lagoon team will be pulling out the stops to recreate a Moroccan oasis to let you feast like a king. Three rotational menus featuring over 20 live action hawker stalls will proffer an international selection of goodies.

Adding to the excitement is the hypnotic performances of fire eaters and jugglers, South African acrobatics, Arabian dancers and an erupting volcano.

 

The sensorial overload doesn't end there. A lavish buffet with the compelling  showpiece of whole roast lamb is included. Decked with Arabesque pillars and ornate lanterns, the delectable array veers from local satay and murtabak to grilled steak and seafood, and chicken shawarma.

 

My personal faves? Piquant Siam Lemak Laksa to set the tastebuds alight. Its closest rival is Nasi Briyani, fragrant basmati rice accompanied by Rendang Ayam Negeri Sembilan, Kambing Kuzi, Gulai Udang Nenas.

 

Appetising Popiah, Thosai and Aneka Goreng - assorted local fritters should fill up any empty tummy space. Remember to go easy though if you want to wrap things up on sweet renditions of Cendol, Ice Cream Sandwiches and Malay kuihs.
