MAGICAL CHRISTMAS FEAST AT THE WESTIN KUALA LUMPUR



Drawing inspiration from ten countries around the world, The Westin KL chefs left no stone unturned in their quest to impress with a lavish spread fit for the festive season.



Taking diners on a whirlwind culinary tour around the globe, the vast Yuletide selection decking The Living Room starts with colourful platters of Santa Devil Eggs, Christmas Antipasto Wreath, Salmon Gravlax, Rainbow Vegetable-Wrapped Feta Terrine, Assorted Seafood and freshly shucked Oysters amongst other temptations.

In line with the Westin’s Eat Well philosophy, a Salad and Cheese Station featuring numerous imported kinds of cheese, fresh lettuce and salad leaves with a variety of condiments, pickles, sauces and dressings is included; to enable diners to rustle up their own salads.


Main highlights to savour range from perennial Roast Turkey, Lamb Leg and Beef Wellington to more distinct European-centric fare such as the well-spiced and aromatic Spanish Paella Seafood, and a surprisingly moist Duck Leg Confit with Cherry, Quinoa and Orange Sauce.

The rustic but flavourful dishes of German-inspired Braised Red Cabbage with Apple, and Swedish-inspired Hasselback Potato with Orange Cheddar Sauce somehow left quite an impression. Possibly because they are meatless; a nice counterpoint to the heavier, protein-laden fare we've been feasting on.

Not to be outdone, newly appointed Executive Pastry Chef Syeriff Hafizal holds his own by proffering a treasure trove of sweet treats. Flanking his showpiece of a giant gingerbread house are an oversized Chocolate "Log" Red Velvet Cake (lauded for its moist fudgy texture), a Croquembouche Tower and assorted Macarons (whimsically decorated as reindeer, santa, snowman and Christmas tree) amongst others.



Some gems await in the bread section: Ginger Bread Loaf inspired by Vienna, Panettone and Christmas Stollen Sweet Bread from Italy, and Walnut Raisin Baguette inspired by France are notable choices. Dial up your festive mood with traditional Christmas cookies if you are so inclined.

‘TIS THE SEASON TO BE FEASTING AT SERENA BRASSERIE

Three types of roast turkeys, culinary delicacies from ‘Around The World’ and ‘Garden-To-Plate’ specialities by Chef Vincent Tan and the Serena Brasserie team will bring joy to your Yuletide celebration at InterContinental Kuala Lumpur this year.


Taking centerstage will be Traditional Grandma Roast US Turkey with all its trimmings: roasted chestnuts, bread stuffing, roasted brussels sprouts and giblet gravy. Inspired by local culinary influences, we are tempted by Roast Turkey with a piquantly spiced Perchik Sauce.

Also decking the dining hall is a delectable Roast Turkey with Chinese Herbs. It’s surprisingly delicious, the meat imbued with delicately sweet dong quai (Angelica sinensis) and goji berries accents. You can order these roast turkeys for takeaway at RM588+ per set (approximately 5 kg per bird) from OneSixFive Lounge starting now until 1 January 2022.

 

A seafood wonderland awaits on the appetiser front with Poached Assorted Seafood: slipper lobsters, prawns, scallops, oysters and king crab legs beckoning invitingly on beds of crushed ice. Savour them au naturel, with lemon or Tabasco or cocktail sauce.

 

Other curtain-raisers to warm up to include a hearty and savoury Tomato Soup and Assorted Garden Salads.


It’s beginning to taste a lot more like Christmas when you sample scrumptiously tender Roast Beef with pouffy light Yorkshire Pudding, Baked Salmon and Spiced Biryani Rice.


Sweet Christmas treats to leave you merry and bright range from luscious Chocolate Yule Log and fruity Christmas Stollen, to Mince Pies and decadent Chocolate Mousse Cake among others.


Serena Brasserie’s Around the World Dinner Buffet (6pm – 10pm) is served from 17 December – 30 December 2021 (*excluding 24 December & 31 December) at RM188+ per adult and RM113+ per child (6 – 12 years old).


The Christmas Eve (24 December 2021) Garden-to-Plate Dinner Buffet (6pm – 10pm) is priced at RM208+ per adult and RM125+ per child.

New Year’s Eve (31 December 2021) Garden-to-Plate Buffet Dinner (6pm – 10pm) is priced at RM218+ per adult and RM131+ per child.

RETRO CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION AT DORSETT KL


Vibrant shades of red, orange, green, pink, purple and blue sets the Christmas tree at the lobby of Dorsett Kuala Lumpur lobby apart this year. General Manager Adele Ang waved a ‘magic wand’ to officiate the lighting up ceremony. 
The hotel also invited a group of refugee Myanmarese children from from the Shalom Education Center to perform Christmas carolling before guests were ushered to Checkers Café for dinner. 
In line with the Dorsett group’s “Stay Vibrant” global brand proposition, a green Instagrammable wall beckons selfie enthusiasts to strike a pose. After pre-dinner drinks and live entertainment by resident band, DMJ Trio, guests proceeded to the lobby for the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.


The culinary team left no stones unturned in their quest to impress, showcasing a kaleidoscope of Yuletide specialities. Colourful and dainty portions of appetisers such as Pate with Peach and Mini Sliders jostle for attention amidst international Cheese Platter and Seafood on Ice.
 
Pasta cooked a la minute and the carvery counter feturing Whole Roasted Turkey with Giblet Gravy, Cranberry Sauce, Chestnut Stuffing, and Salt Baked Salmon with Mustard Dill Cream Sauce garnered long queues that evening.
 
If you’re planning to reserve a seat for the upcoming Christmas Eve Buffet Dinner (RM118nett per person), the extravagant menu includes grilled meat from the live Barbeque station in addition to a plethora of hot dishes: Beef Goulash, Lamb Navarin, Grilled Fish with Lemon Butter Sauce, Jamaican Jerk Chicken and Tomato Seafood Ragout.
 

Over at the sweet wonderland of dessert, Gingerbread in different shapes and sizes beckoned invitingly. Luscious temptations such as Chocolate Yule Log, Christmas Cookies, Macarons, Berry Trifle, Cheesecake and Stollen were laid out too.
 
 
Checkers Café will also serve an equally lavish New Year’s Eve Buffet Dinner (RM118nett per person) from 7 pm onwards on 31 December. Guests may proceed to Dorsett Residences Bukit Bintang at the hotel’s annexe, to catch the fireworks at the rooftop pool area on Level 30.
 
 
For festive takeaways, Christmas Treats are sold at Windows Lounge. Assorted Christmas Cookies, Almond Stollen Bread and other goodies are available while Roasted Tom Turkey and Roasted NZ Leg of Lamb can be reserved ahead of time.
