JOYOUS MID-AUTUMN FEST WITH FOUR SEASONS HOTEL KL

Meticulously crafted by award-winning dim sum maestro Chef Ng Meng Loong who has over two decades of culinary expertise, the Four Seasons’ mooncakes mirror a full moon – symbolising unity and completeness – come in a sumptuous array of baked and snowskin variants.
This year’s most outstanding snowskin creation has to be the Black Truffle Lotus Seed Paste with Pine Nuts and Kelulut Honey (RM68 each) mooncake. The chef has ensured a harmonious blend of flavours especially with the bold inclusion of black truffle into the snowskin mooncakes. We love the distinct pine nut and kelulut honey combo with lotus seed paste.
Returning snowskin favourites include luscious Musang King Durian (RM80 each), exquisite Bird's Nest with Black Sesame and Almond (RM58 each) and White Lotus Seed Paste with Seaweed, Black Sugar and Macadamia (RM50 each).

EXQUISITE, TIMELESS MOONCAKES FROM SHANGRI-LA KL

 

Available now until 17 September 2024, an exquisite range of timeless mooncakes is available from Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur for the Mid-Autumn Festival.
My Blossom Bliss Gift Set in a pretty pink gift box contained a set of four baked mooncakes. The auspicious gift box of Snowskin Indulgence set came with 8 snowskin mooncakes.
Priced at RM288 for the latter, the 60g snow skin creations feature Musang King, Butterfly Pea Flower Skin with Coconut, Mango & Passion Fruit and Yuzu & Cheese variants.
Delicately crafted, you’d know the luscious Musang King filling from the ripe aroma alone. Since I’m an avid durian fan, I adore the creamy richness enfolded within the delicate layer of mochi-like snow skin.

Light and fruity with refreshing tanginess denotes the Mango & Passion Fruit variant whilst the Yuzu & Cheese filling exuded a delightful pairing of citrusy and savoury accents. For a touch of local flavour, the subtly sweet Pea Flower Snowskin with Coconut filling proved enticingly on-point.
Purists may prefer the baked Red Bean Paste with 30-year Dried Tangerine Peel (RM41). This was one of my favourites too as the dried tangerine peel imbued the red bean paste mooncake with a mellow sweet tangerine nuance.
The Black Truffle Lotus Seed Paste with Yolk (RM46) turned out to be a dark horse; a thoroughbred creation that romped home a winner. Unconventional but I found myself liking how the musky-earthy truffle aroma was amplified by the savoury yolk.
Likewise, the distinctly heady floral scent of osmanthus was noticeable when I sampled the Osmanthus Lotus Seed Paste with Yolk (RM42) mooncake. Another outstanding pairing worth savouring if you’re looking for a new twist to old-school baked mooncakes.
Of course, you can always return to classic Pandan Lotus Seed Paste with Yolk (RM42) if you’re a stickler for tradition. The sweetness level is just nice with the jade-green filling exuding a nice vanilla-like aroma.

CONCORDE HOTEL KL LIGHTS UP MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL

Lifelike 3D images with LED backlight adorned circular mooncake boxes from Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur for Mid-Autumn Festival this year.

Choose from four eye-catching designs: a pink crescent moon with pretty blossoms, a goldfish frolicking amidst lotus flowers, a pair of birds perched on delicate floral branches, or a lotus flower in full bloom with a pair of gold fishes adorning the lids of the gift boxes.


Priced at RM168 nett per set with 4 x 180g mooncakes, take your pick from these sets available:

Mine was Set B and the batch of baked mooncakes seemed on-point: the knife came away cleanly after I cut into each mooncake – an indication of the good quality paste and crust. 
The red bean paste was deliciously rich with that irresistibly sweet ‘beany’ taste I love. For savoury-sweet variant with vanilla-like fragrance, the golden pandan pure lotus single yolk won't disappoint.

Since I’m partial to fruits & nuts, the slightly chewy, nutty filling scored with me too. TBH, I know some folks may eschew this variant altogether. The white pure lotus paste should please purists as it left no room for complaint.


Handmade with pure musang king durian flesh, the Hotel's yearly best-selling Snowskin Musang King Durian Mooncakes (RM198 nett for a set of 4 pcs) again proved winsome. A cooler bag (while stocks last) is provided to keep the mooncakes chilled upon collection. Remember, the delicate mooncakes are best kept in the fridge to maintain their freshness and should be enjoyed soonest possible.


Once hailed as the best snowskin durian mooncake in town by a major newspaper, it’s the next best thing to eating the actual king of fruits. They’re decadent and you’d find it hard to stop after the first mouthful.

THE COLOURS OF MID-AUTUMN AT DORSETT GRAND SUBANG



Mooncakes in various colours and flavours take the limelight for the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival celebration at Dorsett Grand Subang this year.


Handcrafted by Dim Sum Master Chef Chan Chee Loong, ‘The Colours of Mid-Autumn’ collection showcases a myriad of snowskin mooncakes with enticing fillings.
Berri-Licious Snowskin Mooncake


New creations to debut this year include Berri-Licious and Ying & Yang Snowskin Mooncake both priced at RM45 per mooncake. The first a pure white snowskin mooncake streaked with blue – flaunts the goodness of blueberries in its filling.
 



The latter, a marbled creation with striations of cream, ivory, espresso and chestnut, comes with a dual filling of milk tea and coffee paste. Unusual and most palate-pleasing.


Available at RM33 each, the Red Sapphire Snowskin Mooncake is naturally infused with red dragon fruit extract and boasts a pure red bean paste filling. The sweetness level is just nice and pleasant enough to induce repeat helpings.


Pandan fans can look forward to savouring Royal Jade (RM43 each) – a snowskin mooncake infused with pandan extract while its filling comprises fragrant pandan-infused lotus paste.
 

Instantly recognizable for its mesmerizing blue pea flower hue, the Dorsett Blue Signature (RM43 each) snowskin mooncake returns to join the customary celebration with its white lotus paste with single yolk filling.


Another perennial crowd-pleaser requiring 2 days’ advance order is the Signature Premium Musang King Durian (RM60 each) snowskin mooncake since it’s made using 100% MK durian pulp.


Baked variants are also available: White Lotus Paste with Double Yolks (RM48 each) requires a 3 days' advance order; Pandan Lotus Paste with Single Yolk (RM43 each); White Lotus Paste with Single Yolk (RM42 each); Pure White Lotus Paste (RM36 each); Pure Red Bean Paste (RM33 each) and Pandan Lotus Paste with Single Yolk (RM43 each).



Dorsett Grand Subang’s mooncakes are HALAL certified, and made without any added preservatives. They come in a gift box of 4 pieces each.


This year’s multi-functional recycled box comes in vibrant orange, adorned with pretty motifs by iKarrtini (Malaysia’s renowned batik designer) in UV finishing.
